A more earth-friendly, more durable alternative to plastic office chair mats!

OUR STORY:

We’re not just a chair mat. We’re a project that is constantly evolving and ALWAYS looking to improve our product and replace the plastic office chair mats that are seemingly everywhere today. We’ve all become increasingly aware of the blight that plastic has perpetrated in our world, especially how it’s contaminating the oceans, its inhabitants, and our food and water supply. The “Ꚛ” symbol in our name is the modern astronomical symbol for Earth (link).

We’re presently offering our solution in 1/2″ MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) – it’s relatively inexpensive and very durable. We encourage DIYs to fabricate their own because our goal here is less about making money than it is about helping our planet and you saving some money along the way (it will SIGNIFICANTLY outlast plastic office chair mats – we offer a 10-year warranty!). However, if you don’t have the tools and space to fabricate this, we’ll be happy to make one for you. For those of you that are DIYs, and have the tools and space to fabricate this, we simply round the corners using a jigsaw, bevel the edges on both sides with an angle grinder, then seal both sides with two coats of sealant, stain both sides with two coats of solid color of your choice. Here’s a shot of the prototype in my office after two years in service, still on the first side – a 4′ x 4′ sheet to match the color of this room (I know, it’s a ghastly color but it matches). The beauty of this product is that when one side starts to look a little haggard (and who knows when that will be), simply flip it over and you’re good to go. When both sides look haggard, and depending on the condition of the MDF, you’ll likely be able to simply lightly sand/repaint and you’d be good to go for another cycle of use.

  NOTE: Due to the high cost of shipping this product (the dimensions are categorized as “oversize”), standard shippers such as UPS, FED EX Ground, etc. are extremely expensive and, for now, this forces us to restrict our shipping to the North Olympic Peninsula in WA., or for quantities of 3 or more, to the Seattle/Tacoma area at the rate of $1/mile one way from Port Angeles.
